About

Emmadale Farm was born through the vision and passion of long time local landscape architect Cathy Markle. In October of 2011, after 20 years in the Roaring Fork Valley operating her landscape architecture and design/build business Alpine Design and Planning out of Aspen, Cathy found the opportunity to move down valley to a beautiful and fertile 5 acre property on Emma Road in Basalt. While Alpine Design and Planning remains in Aspen, Emmadale Farm was born this spring in Basalt as a testing ground for multiple varieties of organic vegetables and sustainable farming methods. With a greenhouse that doubles in the spring as a home for seed starts and the annual and perennial flowers for Alpine Design and Planning, there is never an empty moment on the farm. In years to come, Emmadale will begin to see fruits from the plum, pear and apple trees planted this year, as well as asparagus, blueberries and raspberries. Emmadale Farm uses only organic seeds, plants and methods for it’s produce, and is striving to be a reliable source for delicious, organic, and truly local produce right here in the Roaring Fork Valley.
